Black Soot From Candles

Black Soot From Candles

Candles need the right amount of wax, air and wick to burn cleanly.

Candle soot is caused by factors such as the length of the wick and flame's lack of access to oxygen, when this happens it causes an over production of carbon particles. Soot is the product of incomplete combustion. Jar candles are especially prone to this problem.

Jar candles are normally affected more by this, due to the fact the wax candle is submerged in a glass jar, thus cutting down the candles access to oxygen. The key to help this, is to trim the wick just enough to eliminate the smoking, yet leave it long enough to maintain a strong flame.
