A candle stick, chamber stick, and candelabrum are all terms used to describe a holder that holds one or more candles. These are generally used for illumination, rituals or even just decorative purposes.
Although electricity has phased candles out of being essential items, candlesticks and candelabra are still used in modern homes as decorative items. They are still used on special occasions and are also used to set atmospheres. You can still find candlesticks being used in religious rituals, in Jewish homes. Candles are lit to signify the beginning of Sabbath on Friday nights, so candle sticks are often on display.
Before the invention of electricity candles were carried throughout households using chamber sticks. They were generally shorter than ordinary candle holders and were furnished with a wide pan to catch any hot liquid wax.
