Candles were a prominent feature in some of the most romantic celebrity marriage proposals of recent years.

In Style has compiled a list of the top proposals, with chef Christopher Eme’s candlelit effort ranking highly.

The French chef popped the question in his bedroom, surrounded by candles, with his proposal painted on a canvas and some champagne ready to celebrate the engagement.

His fiance, Shark actress Jeri Ryan, was presented with a made-to-order cushion-cut solitaire set in pave diamonds.

Other proposals considered romantic by the magazine included Tia Mowry and Cory Hardrict’s, Howie Dorough and Leigh Boniello’s and Anna Chlumsky and Shaun So’s.

WMUR New Hampshire recently reported that candles helped save one couple’s big day.

Donna and Steve Webster held their reception by candlelight after an ice storm caused a power outage at their venue.

Light was also provided by fairy lights on two Christmas trees, powered by borrowed electricity
